The winds of change...

Life has been a little crazy lately, bringing lots of changes, which can be good, but not always easy. Brady and I have both changed jobs within the last 3 weeks. I stayed within the company but got a promotion to be a call center manager. I was really excited to be able to get the job. It's something I've had the desire to do for a long time, and I think it will be a great opportunity to learn and grow. The interview process was stressful, but then again I guess interviewing is always stressful! The manager positions only open up about once a year, on average, so pretty much everyone and their dog applies for it. I had a lot of really great competition. There were so many good candidates that I honestly don't know why the picked me! Luckily, I've been at the company for a long time and have been able to gain experience from a number of different places, so I feel very fortunate to have the job. Now I have my own team of about 25 agents that I get to keep in line on a daily basis. It's fun, but I'm finding it's a lot of work! It definitely keeps me hopping. It will take some getting used to, but I think it will be good. I totally lucked out on the schedule! I was offered the 9-6 shift, which I totally didn't expect. I thought I'd be working the 3-11 shift for sure. It's definitely different coming home before 8:30 pm!

To be honest, I've been struggling a bit with leaving the training department. I loved the people I worked with down there, and it really was a great job. I had a lot of fun doing it, and I will miss it dearly. It was a tough decision, but I felt that ultimately it would be good to have the opportunities being a call center manager would offer.

As I mentioned in the beginning, Brady has also changed jobs! He now works for Spring Communications and will have his own store to manage in about a month. The company he was working for previously was not treating their employees well, so we think it will be good for Brady to start somewhere else. It's a big change for him, but he's learning quickly and should do great.

So, basically, it feels like things are in upheaval at the Paulich home. Our schedules and responsibilities have changed, and everything just feels "off". I know it's for the better and something we wanted, but I have to admit at times I just want everything to go back to normal. I think change is good, I just hate the process of it. In a month or two I know that we will have a new "normal" and everything will be fine :) We are grateful for the opportunities that have been presented to us...hopefully we can make the most of them!

Catching some zzz's

People often ask us if we let Gertie sleep with us at night, to which we answer, "heck no!". The other day I was getting ready for work and Gertie was sleeping downstairs. I sneaked down and managed to get a video clip demonstrating why the dog doesn't sleep anywhere near us at night:

This is actually a milder version of her snoring too. She's a really heavy sleeper and really gets going when she's in a deep sleep. Sometimes I have to even wake her up because it's so loud I can't concentrate! Funny dog...

Happy New Year!

It feels like forever since I posted on here last. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the holidays. It's amazing how quickly they seem to come and go. Christmas was nice. We were definitely spoiled! It was an exhausting two days though. We went to my parents house in Draper for dinner on Christmas Eve, then drove out to Grantsville to spend the night. We got no sleep because of barking dogs, woke up early, did the present thing, drove back to my parents house in Draper, then to Brady's dad's house, then to my aunt's house, and then finally home! We went to bed at about 8:45 that night. I don't think I've gone to bed that early since I was about 7 years old! Gertie was pretty wiped out too. We dragged her from place to place, but she did great! Very well behaved the whole time. What a good girl.

The week between Christmas and New Years was kind of a blur. I had the post-holiday blues I think. New Years ended up being a lot of fun though. We went to Grantsville to hang out with some friends there. We went bowling and then back to our friend's house to do fondue (kind of a tradition now). We then had a Wii tournament. It was a good time, lots of laughs. As sad as this sounds, we were all pretty proud of ourselves for staying up past midnight! We're getting so old, it feels like... We went to bed super late that night, and of course neighbor dogs barked all through the night again, so once again no sleep. We were exhausted. Poor little Gertie was completely worn out, once again. She was trying to sleep in the car on the drive home, but for some reason didn't want to lie down. Instead she wanted to rest her head on the back of my seat and sleep like that. It was so funny... especially when she slipped off the backseat and jerked awake. Ha! Here's a picture of her wide awake on the way out there...
And completely wiped out on the way home...
Our New Year's Resolution for 2008 is to budget better... as in, actually create an official budget and stick to it. If anyone has any good budgeting tips feel free to send them our way!
We wish everyone a happy and prosperous year in 2008!
