What a week...

If anyone has ever noticed that I can be slightly obsessive about keeping Claire away from germs, it's because when she's sick it is m-i-s-e-r-a-b-l-e. Overall she's been pretty healthy, but lately everyone (including Brady and me) have had colds, so I new it'd be a miracle if she didn't get it. Sure enough, a week ago Sunday she work up at 3:30 in the morning all congested, snot everywhere, coughing, and just sad as could be. Oh, and apparently having a cold makes Claire barf- a lot. She gets coughing so hard that she gags and then throws up all over the place. Having a sick baby is the worst. Not only is it very trying due to the lack of sleep and the fussiness, but more than anything your heart just breaks for them. There's really nothing I could do to make her feel better or comfort her. She didn't understand why she felt crappy and didn't know how to handle it. You just feel so helpless. Luckily she is recovering and didn't get any worse, because I know there are a lot of very sick babies out there who have needed medical intervention, and Claire hasn't. I should be grateful for how healthy she has been. Although now, of course, she's cutting her first tooth so she's still rather unhappy, but I know that's all part of growing up. Being a baby is tough!

I love Sundays

Getting ready for church

Fridays and Saturdays used to be my favorite days of the week, but over the last little while Sunday has definitely become my favorite day. It is the only day of the week that Brady and I have off together and we can be like a "normal" family. Yesterday was such a nice day. I knew it was going to be a good day when it started with a breakfast of blueberry pancakes :) We then made cupcakes for our primary kids and actually made it to church on time. Claire was a good little girl during church, we only had 3 kids show up to our primary class which made for an easy day, and we headed home in high spirits. We had some lunch, we all took a little nap, then woke up and went for a walk, which was the highlight of my day. The weather was cool but very nice, and we strapped Claire into her stroller and put the dog on a leash and went and delivered cupcakes to our primary kids that weren't at church. It was so nice to get out of the house and be outside. I definitely have cabin fever after being cooped up for so many months. Claire loved the walk, and so did Gertie. Claire and I sat outside for a little while afterward watching the birds and neighbors (everyone else was outside too) and she was just happy as could be.

Brady made us a fancy dinner of lobster tail and pasta and Claire actually took a nap while we ate. A dinner all to ourselves! The rest of the evening she played in her high chair and "talked" to Gertie while we cleaned up and I started on my latest money-saving venture: making my own homemade baby food! I heard about some other lady doing it, so I looked it up online and decided to try it. It's actually quite easy and does save some money. Plus, you know exactly what is going into the food so you can be confident that it is healthy. I don't know why more people don't do it. I felt so...domestic! Like a young Martha Stewart :) I do feel good knowing that I'm taking care of my family. Yesterday I made some sweet potatoes, peas, and carrots and froze them and will be working on a few fruits this week.

All in all, I loved being able to spend the day with my family. It's rare that we can just relax together and have a good time, and I'm grateful for those moments. I LOVE that the weather is getting a little nicer. I can't wait to be outside more! Hurry up spring!

Also, don't forget! I'm going to be going private in a bit, so if you haven't given me your email address yet be sure to leave a comment. Thanks!

Stupid mail

Brady and I have a bad habit of only getting our mail once a week (it's in a locked mailbox thingy for all you thinking "Gasp! Identity theft waiting to happen!"), so going through the mail is a big event because there's so much. If only it were nice letters and cards instead of piles of bills and junk mail! Anyway, this week not one, but TWO Victoria's Secret catalogs came. I don't know why I look at these things, especially the swimsuit one. I tell myself that maybe I'll find something super cute for a good deal, but instead I walk away feeling bad about myself. As I'm looking at them it's like the pages are screaming, "HA! You wish you could look like these women, but you never will! HA! Aren't those sandals cute? Well too bad, they're $198!! HA! Too bad for you! Those are cute pants, right? HA! Of course they are! The woman who is wearing them is 5' 9" and weighs 105 pounds! Keep dreaming!" Yes, I'm pretty sure that's what the pages are screaming. I don't know if any of the rest of you hear it, but I swear it's a sick form of torture.

As I was looking at them last night I told Brady I hate the stupid catalogs, to which he asked why, and to which I gave the above response. His eyes got wide and he just said, "Wow. Sorry I asked..." and went back to what he was reading. Men will never get it.
